The goal of the word work program is for your child to transfer the skills learned each week about a word family to their daily reading and writing. Since English is such a difficult language to spell, students must learn many different ways to spell one sound (such as the long e sound). The generalizations they discover by working with word families can be used to help them sound out or spell dozens if not hundreds of words.
