To practise using doubles to solve problems with near doubles, check out this site Dinosuar Dentist. It asks you to find the double fact that matches the number of teeth in the dinosaur’s mouth, then to subtract one tooth (the black one) to find the doubles less one fact! The pain-free Dino does a dance to celebrate afterwards. Very cute!
To practise how mathematicians bridge through friendly numbers like 10, 20, 50, and 100 while adding, try this game - Bridging Shuttle For example: For the shuttle’s “flight path” called 8 + 4. Students begin at 8, type in the number that gets them to the next friendly number (2) and then hit the red button to proceed to the satellite. Next they type the number to take them the rest of the way – (2 again) and press the next red button to land.
To represent numbers and perform addition, try this site Electronic Abacus
